Women Age Better If They Have Active Sex Lives: Study

Remember what good sex life of some of the fabulous post-60 "Golden Girls" seemed to have? It was not realistic, according to a new study from the University of California at San Diego.
The research examined the sexual life of women between the ages of 60 and 89, and found that those who enjoyed an active sex life had a better quality of life and were happier, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
Although sexual activity was lower in older women - "Seventy percent of women sixty years reported some kind of sexual activity in the last six months, a figure that dropped to 57 percent among women in their seventies and 31 percent among his eighties, "according to the report - and women in the study were less likely than younger women to become aroused and climax, the results showed most women ranked their sex lives between moderately satisfied and very satisfied, according to the Telegraph.
Professor Wesley Thompson, who led the study at UCSD, told The Sydney Morning Herald that maintaining a high level of sexual satisfaction can positively reinforce other psychological aspects of successful aging.
Of the 1235 women surveyed, the general conclusion was that a satisfying sex life is closely linked to a high quality of life to the end in our 80's.
Thompson told the Daily Mail "Although we can not determine cause and effect of this study, these results suggest that maintaining a high level of sexual satisfaction can positively reinforce other psychological aspects of successful aging."
The results were contrary to what the researchers initially hypothesized, reports the Telegraph. Thompson team expected to see fall sexual satisfaction with age.
But how the sexual activity of women later in life compared with men? A comparative study published in the British Medical Journal, Time magazine reported in 2010 found that "67% of men aged 65-74 said they had been sexually active during the last year, compared with only 40% of women in the same age group. "When it comes to sexual satisfaction, a study published in the British Journal of Urology in 2006 found that men in their 50 years were actually more satisfied with their sex lives than men in their 30s and 40s, LiveScience.com reported, but their satisfaction dropped dramatically after age 59.Rate translation
